A Chapter Begins:
What happens when a musician, event curator, project manager and culture specialist walk into a room? You get me —Tom Saison, and this is where I plan on bringing all of my worlds together.
At times this may come across to you as a massive hodgepodge of thoughts and ideas I can’t seem to contain or rationalise internally and I’d be lying if I said you were wrong but this is more than that. I’ve contemplated taking this step for nearly a decade and I’ve come up with every excuse under the sun for why I shouldn't do this and now that I’ve exhausted my options, the time to act has evidently arrived.
So hi, my name is Leslie Tachiona Muzuwa, aka Tom Saison, fka The Overlooked Musician and for those that haven’t met me yet or haven’t been privy to the story behind my moniker I look forward to sharing it with you soon but what is more pertinent to mention is that I’m excited to e-meet you and embark on a journey of sharing, learning and discourse with you.
I’ll keep my ting brief—this is just the beginning, after all. Right now, you’re probably asking one of the 5 W’s, so let’s start with the what. Never Too Late is where my worlds collide—a space to share my journey, unpack lessons I’ve learned and spark the kind of conversations that challenge, inspire and push us forward. Whether it’s making sense of the independent musician's journey, dissecting brand strategy or diving into cultural trends from SA and beyond, I’m here to connect, challenge ideas and build with like-minded creatives and any folk with an ounce of curiosity.
Over the next few months, I’ll be diving into a range of industries and topics, including:
Personal Growth & The Diasporan Effect
Musicianship & Creativity as a Business Model and Lifestyle
BTL Marketing in the South African Context
Cross-Sensory Marketing
Music Release & Rollout Reviews
Local Visual Art(ists).
I won’t pretend to be an expert in all these fields, but I do have a perspective to share. More importantly, I’m here to learn alongside you—this is as much an exploration as it is a conversation.
I’d be a rookie marketeer if I didn’t find a way to plant a call to action in this post and if there's one thing you'll notice about this space, it's that I'll be breaking the fourth wall whenever I see fit—laying things out as plainly as I speak. So, dala what you must (do what you feel most inclined) —subscribe, comment, share or all of the above. I’m excited to hear your thoughts on my findings. I may not have all the answers upfront, but one thing’s for sure—I’ll always dig deep to find them for you.
So, now that we’ve crossed some I’s and dotted some t’s, I'd like to leave you with a final refrain;
In Closing:
“It doesn’t interest me who you know or how you came to be here.
I want to know if you will stand in the centre of the fire with me and not shrink back.
It doesn’t interest me where or what or with whom you have studied.
I want to know what sustains you from the inside when all else falls away.
I want to know if you can be alone with yourself and if you truly like the company you keep in the empty moments.” - Oriah Mountain dreamer, The Invitation
If you ever wonder what drives me, it’s woven into these lines from Oriah’s The Invitation. Let’s see what we are made of together and expand on what we know, in hopes that we might honor the invitations life's waiting to extend to us in our next season.
Welcome to Never Too Late. Here’s to new beginnings, bold conversations and the journey ahead. Until next time.
